About The Work
The model is a copy of the marble sculpture by Michelangelo, currently preserved at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Lazzoni, in his guide, notes it in the "Stanza dei lavori” at the Palazzo del Principe and records that it was donated to the Accademia di Carrara by the Carrara sculptors Carlo Nicoli and Achille Fabbricotti in 1873. The work has long been used by students of the Academy as a model for the execution of drawings and copies in clay and plaster. The provenance of the object, as well as the workshop and the name of the maker, remain unknown.
