About The Work
The commemorative medal celebrates the inauguration of the Monument to Victor Emmanuel II in San Martino della Battaglia, which took place in October 1893.
On the obverse is depicted the elevation of the façades of the ossuaries of Solferino and San Martino, with the circular inscription: "OSSARI DI SOLFERINO E S. MARTINO." At the lower right appears the artist’s signature: "L. CIOCCHETTI."
The reverse presents the elevation of the monument dedicated to Victor Emmanuel II in San Martino della Battaglia, with the circular inscription: "MONUMENTO AL RE VITT. EMAN. II. IN S. MARTINO DELLA BATTAGLIA"; at the bottom is engraved the date: "OTTOBRE . MDCCCXCIII."
