About The Work
The commemorative medal was issued on the occasion of the enactment of the law establishing Rome as the capital of the Kingdom of Italy in 1871, honoring Victor Emmanuel II.
On the obverse, at the center, the king is depicted between a Genius offering a crown and Minerva, who bows in homage. At the lower left appears the artist’s signature: "C. MOSCETTI," while at the center, below the scene, is engraved the motto: "POST FATA RESURGE."
The reverse presents at the center a commemorative inscription, surrounded by two laurel branches, with a star below:
"SERVATORE . AC . VINDICE / VICTORIO . EMANUELE . II / LEX LATA / III . NON . FEBR / A . REP . SAL . MDCCCLXXI / AB . URBE . CONDITA / MMDCXXIV."
