About The Work
Medal issued by the Provincial Council of Corporate Economy of Massa and Carrara, with the motto “Extollunt Marmora Lunam.”
Obverse: At the center, the kneeling figure of Mercury, protector of commerce, holding a winged wheel, symbol of the railways. In the background, trees and ships. Circular inscription: "CONSIGLIO PROVINCIALE DELL'ECONOMIA CORPORATIVA / MASSA E CARRARA."
Reverse: A cart driver sits on the yoke connecting two oxen. In the background, a locomotive crosses the bridges of Vara, near the Carrara quarries. On the left, the fasces surmounted by the coat of arms of the province of Massa and Carrara. On a ribbon, the Latin motto: "EXTOLLUNT MARMORA / LUNAM." On the right, the author’s signature: "A. GIORGI."
