About The Work
The official commemorative medal of the Municipality of Florence, issued on the occasion of the completion of the façade of the church of S. Maria del Fiore, features on the obverse a detailed depiction of the façade itself, with the circular inscription: "SCOPRIMENTO DELLA FACCIATA DEL DUOMO . XII MAGGIO MDCCCLXXXVII."
On the reverse, an engraved text celebrates the event and its historical and artistic significance:
"PERCHÉ FOSSE RICORDATO IN PERPETUO L'AVVENIMENTO SOLENNE DELL'ARTE DELLA CIVILTÀ DELLA FEDE IL MUNICIPIO DI FIRENZE DECRETAVA QUESTA MEDAGLIA."
