About The Work
The medal was awarded to the École du soir de dessin pour les artisans of Carrara on the occasion of the 1900 International Universal Exposition in Paris.
On the obverse is depicted the “Genius” holding a torch, carried in flight by “Fame,” who bears a laurel wreath and a palm. In the background are the Arc de Triomphe and the Grand Palais. The circular inscription reads: "EXPOSITION . UNIVERSELLE . INTERNATIONAL . / 1900," while at the bottom, on a plaque, the recipient is indicated: "ÉCOLE DU SOIR / DE DESSIN POUR LES / ARTISANS A CARRARE." The reverse shows a left-profile head representing France, wearing a Phrygian cap, resting against the trunk of an oak tree, with the city of Paris in the background. Circular inscription: "REPUBLIQUE / FRANCAISE."
