About The Work
The medal awarded to the second-place winner of the invention prizes at the Triennials of the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara features on the obverse the effigy of Duchess Maria Teresa Cybo Malaspina, surrounded by the inscription: "M : TERESIA DUX MUTIN : MASS : ET CARR:" with the artist’s signature "TONELLI" at the lower left.
On the reverse, at the center, is the emblem of the Academy, above which is the inscription: "ET FAVET INGENIIS ET PRAEMIA PONIT," and around the edge: "ACADEMIA DUCALIS . CIVITATIS CARRARIAE."
