About The Work

The work is a commemorative sculpture dedicated to Pietro Isoppi (1921–1983), a physician and local partisan, created by Floriano Bodini (1933–2005) after 1983. The object consists of a marble clipeus, typologically akin to a medal, composed of a frame enclosing a bas-relief depicting the flight of two doves over the sea. The frame bears two inscriptions: on the upper edge, “1921–1983,” the life dates of the honouree, and on the lower edge, “Pietro Isoppi.” The modeling is characterized by a succession of soft, fluid forms, a style that reflects Bodini’s training as a medallist. The surface is marked by signs and graphic elements connected to Bodini’s later research into printmaking techniques.
