About The Work
The object consists of a cardboard mount bearing four albumen prints, pasted onto its surface, which reproduce sketches for stage set designs at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, used for artistic research, educational, and documentary purposes. It forms part of a larger corpus of some 400 cardboard mounts bearing albumen prints. The designs were created by Carlo Ferrario—set designer, painter, architect, and professor of Scenography at the Accademia di Brera. The sketches were first donated to Michele Mongeri by Michele Ferrario, Carlo’s brother, and subsequently entered the Academy as part of the Mongeri bequest on 1 February 1888.
