About The Work
The object consists of a cardboard mount bearing four albumen prints, pasted onto its surface, reproducing sketches for stage set designs for the Teatro alla Scala. These images were used for artistic research, educational, and documentary purposes. The mount forms part of a larger corpus of approximately 400 cardboard supports bearing albumen prints. The designs were created by Carlo Ferrario—set designer, painter, architect, and professor of Scenography at the Accademia di Brera. The sketches were initially donated to Michele Mongeri by Michele Ferrario, Carlo’s brother, and subsequently entered the Academy’s collections as part of the Mongeri bequest on 1 February 1888.
