About The Work
The Basilica of San Pietro in Ciel d’Oro in Pavia was restored beginning in 1884 by the architect Angelo Savoldi, a pupil of Luca Beltrami, who had in turn studied under Camillo Boito. These two photographs belong to a photographic campaign carried out by Achille Ferrario before and after Savoldi’s interventions. The photograph on the left documents a portion of the exterior masonry with a segmental-arched window; the one on the right shows a column with a Corinthian capital, next to which a measuring rod has been placed. The church was reopened for worship in 1896.
