The Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara hosts a workshop focused on the management and conservation of photographic collections, with particular attention to local heritage and the Academy’s own photographic archive.

The workshop is open to student collaborators as well as all enrolled students, especially those attending Photography and Art Education courses.

The programme is divided into a morning and an afternoon session. In the morning, a series of talks explore different perspectives on archival and photographic heritage. Michela Corsini, Director of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara, opens the session with a talk titled Inherited Memories: the Archive between Protection, Mission and Vision. This is followed by Monica Armanetti, Archivist Officer at the Municipality of Bagnone (MS), who presents the ARCHI WEB project and the historical archives within the RE.PRO.BI. library and archive network. Marina Carbone, librarian and archivist, concludes the morning with a contribution on photography in libraries and archives, addressing questions of role, function, and practice.

In the afternoon, participants are guided through the Library and Archive of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara, with a small display of photographic materials connected to the IartNET project. The session continues with a hands-on workshop led by Marina Carbone, focused on the practical management of photographic materials.

Overall, the workshop offers an introduction to the basic tools and methods used in organising and classifying photographic archives, while also encouraging a collaborative and participatory approach among students.
